True Romance soundtrack gets deluxe vinyl box set release for 25th anniversary. Quentin Tarantino cult classic coming to vinyl for the first time. GOT MINE!
Despite the soundtrackâs notoriety, this will mark its first legit release on vinyl (there was a South Korean release of âdubious originâ), and they went all out with the presentation. The deluxe package comes in either Clarence-inspired âking goldâ vinyl (limited to 297 copies), Alabama-inspired clear with aqua and pink splatter vinyl (limited to 686), or white blood splatter vinyl (limited to 2,000).
Other than the violence and mob mayhem this movie has elements to describe what our true romance felt like…two lonely and unlikely people winding up together, compassion, adventures, Elvis, phone booth sex :). BMF loved Pulp Fiction (BMF!) and from there discovered everything Quentin Tarantino to include True Romance. He calls me up one day and tells me drop what you are doing and go find this movie and watch it. So of course I did.
At that time it was definitely the most violent movie I had encountered and my brain could not handle the graphic nature of it at first. My eyes stayed shut most of the first viewing and it would take another two times of start and re-start to get through it. But the love saga of Clarence and Alabama conquered the violence and I too fell in love with the movie and more in love with BMF. He knew I would. đ
The soundtrack to this movie would come to have a lot of meaning in our lives. “You’re So Cool” and John Waite’s “In Dreams” are givens for the lovestruck but “Wounded Bird” became an anthem for me in the once close and then distant relationship I came to have with my father. It took me a long time to get past it and the remedy was BMF. He was just so cool and could fix just about anything for me.
He would find a vintage True Romance cast jacket on E-bay in 2003 for my birthday. I wore it every day until a vagrant smashed the window of my car with a rock and stole it. I was crushed. Luckily and weirdly the Studioplex security team found the guy later camped out on the abandoned railroad tracks (that is now part of the Atlanta Beltline) and returned the jacket. He had been using it as a pillow. It was soiled and wet. I didn’t care. I had it cleaned and while not as perfect as it had been before, I was thrilled to get it back. I still have it and treasure it more than ever.
I know if Jeff were here he would be buying this special True Romance box set of vinyl for us, so I’m buying it for us in his memory to add to our collection. And if he were here I would be buying him a True Romance t-shirt. Maybe I will anyway. I saw a 57 involved somewhere and that’s always a good sign from my angel. Damn I miss you baby.
